I have not really tired searching in GALILEO, so I decided to start with that one. I could not really find much on my topic specifically but I did find some good articles that will help with my topic. Instead of searching for my topic question, "How has the rescission affected careers in Sociology", I just searched sociology careers. I found several different articles. One that stood out to me that I will probably read and use for my paper, is an article called, Dichotomy, Dialectic and Dialogic: How Do Sociology Terms Assist Career Development Theory? I believe it will help me look from a different point of view.
As for the Boolean Operators, I tired a number of different words. Social work with sociology jobs with careers, and depression with rescission.
I could not really find much for an organization. I did find a website that is a career service site that helps people with narrowing down their career opportunities. It breaks down exactly the job description.
I can see where finding specific articles on Galileo for your topic would be difficult! From personal experience I have found that Galileo is more helpful when it comes to topics that are not necessarily "historical" but that are less current than right now.

ReplyDeleteI loved how you linked your presentation to your specific major because it does sound like this is going to help you out tremendously in the future. I wasn't completely sure if you were focusing on how the recession affected the sociology field or if you were just looking at the jobs that are out there for your field...or both! I can totally understand how you may be having a hard time researching this topic but maybe focus more on key words and you will find some more information. Good Luck!

I love that your topic is related to your major. That should really help you, and other people who are interested in careers in the sociology field, out a lot. Since your topic is how the recession has affected jobs in the sociology field, maybe you could include some statistics or a chart showing how jobs have decreased, or increased, due to the economy. Or maybe you could focus on the school aspect of the recession and jobs, since you said you’re now going to have to go to school longer to get the job you want. Good luck!
