http://prezi.com/vmrmn0wiui7o/edit/#0

I used Prezi for my example. I have never used Prezi before. I like it, but not enough to use it. It seems a little too animated for my taste. It has tons of different themes and such, so thats a pro. The biggest con is that its a lot to have to figure out and work with to get a really good presentation.
I also tried Weebly. It seemed very confusing. So much as to I didn't even go into the site that much. Im sure it would be perfect for a marketing major or a computer major.
I plan to use old fashioned PowerPoint. I enjoy using it because I know all of its features and such. Everyone has been using PowerPoint since middle school. I like to add animations and everything to mine with lots of pictures and using as little text as I can.

My topic, How has the recession affected the sociology career field?

Website Article:
Harris , David . "How will the recession affect social services?." Community Care . Reed Business Information Ltd, 04 March 2009. Web. 2 Apr 2013

This website article is about how the recession is affecting the social workers and the field of social work. The author breaks it down into children services, adult services and budget cuts.

Online Journal Article
Glazer , Nathan . "My Life in Sociology ." Annual Review of Sociology . 38.1 (2012): 1-16. Web. 2 Apr. 2013. < http://www.annualreviews.org/doi/abs/10.1146/annurev-soc-071811-145506>.

This article really is not about how the recession has effected sociology  but it was written by a guy who has been doing sociology and he talks about the different ways it has made him.

Blog post

I have not really tired searching in GALILEO, so I decided to start with that one. I could not really find much on my topic specifically  but I did find some good articles that will help with my topic. Instead of searching for my topic question, "How has the rescission affected careers in Sociology", I just searched sociology careers. I found several different articles. One that stood out to me that I will probably read and use for my paper, is an article called, Dichotomy, Dialectic and Dialogic: How Do Sociology Terms Assist Career Development Theory? I believe it will help me look from a different point of view.
As for the Boolean Operators, I tired a number of different words. Social work with sociology  jobs with careers, and depression with rescission.
I could not really find much for an organization. I did find a website that is a career service site that helps people with narrowing down their career opportunities. It breaks down exactly the job description.

Social Media Research

The first social media site I tried was Stumbleupon.com. I have been on this site before, but just for entertainment purposes. I have never really used a social media site for research or school at all for that matter. I did not really find anything specifically for my research topic question. I did find a lot of different news stories and articles related to sociology. I love looking around stumbleupon.com because you can pretty much personalize what you want to look for/at. I think it could be a great way to do research. I also enjoyed searching around Reddit.com. I found a lot of different questions and discussions on my topic. Granted, they are not from creditable authors and such, but I kind of help guide me in some direction for more in dept research. Social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook didn't really help me. I feel as if those are more of a just connecting with friends and family sites and not discussion or information sites. I use both Facebook and Twitter but just for personal reasons like keeping up with friends and stuff. I also use Tumblr, but that is also just for entertainment purposes. I don't use it for research nor do I think it would be a good social media site for research.

Book

I defiantly need to narrow my search. I haven't found too much on my research question. My question is, what are some careers with a degree in Sociology. I have found a ton of articles and such on sociology  but not a lot on careers in sociology specifically. I think I am going to narrow it by adding in another question or by adding in another word. The book I found in the UWG library was Society, Crime, and Criminal Careers by Don C. Gibbons. The call number of this book is HV6025G461973 One of the main parts of Sociology is criminology and the study of society. This book explores the different careers working with different criminology subjects.

Special Collections

I do not believe I could use the Special Collections for my research topic. I may be able to find some articles and such on Sociology, but I do not think it will be of great help. I do believe however it will help my with my Survey of World History 2 class. We have already had to look into some primary sources for different papers and projects and such. I will definitely be checking out Special Collections for my final research paper in that class. I think Special Collections is a very important part of research. It gives students such an inside look into what ever their topic is for their paper. We can look into people at that certain time period and read or listen to their view points unlike just reading a book on that time. Primary sources are excellent to have while writing a research paper.

Topic

I believe I have narrowed down my topic to "What different careers I can have with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Anthropology" . My major is Sociology and my minor is Anthropology  and I want to explorer all of the different careers I can have, how far with degrees I should go, and maybe pursue others into majoring in Sociology. It is a very personal topic and I look froward to researching it and finding out all that I can. For some of the key words I used to look up were, of course, sociology. I also used careers, degree's, careers for sociology, and sociology degree. My main primary resources is going to be talking to students and professors. I am going to try to find articles online from professors or from people who have graduated with a degree in Sociology and who have a career.

Research

I want to write my research paper over my field of study, Sociology, and the different careers I can choose with that degree. There are a variety of different information sources I can use for my topic. Of course, books, articles, the internet, search engines are all good. What I am really interested in doing is finding different groups and people who are already in this field of study and or who have a degree in Sociology. I plan to ask people around campus, as well as different professors about the different career choices I have with a degree in Sociology.  I believe I will get most of my research done that way. The main discipline is Sociology  Of course, subjects as psychology come along with that topic. I want to minor in Anthropology, so I will be researching that as well. I also plan to ask students about this field of study as well and how it goes along with my major, Sociology.

Research Topics!

I have not really given much thought into what I want to do my final research project over. But if I had to choose right now, it would be over something to do with the UK or what I have been doing research on all summer, what career I want after college.
I visited the UK in March of 2012 and I had the most amazing time. I fell in love with the country of England and more with the culture and people. Now that I am back in the States, I am still interested  in the news and such. I want to eventually move and work there for a couple of years before settling down here in America.
My other topic is jobs I can have with my degree. I am majoring in Sociology and this past semester discovered the many careers I can have with a B.S in Sociology.

Big purchase!

My last big purchase was a laptop. I needed a good laptop for home work, Internet browsing, music and can hold a lot of pictures. I talked to the geek squad and such but I always feel like they just talk up the bigger brand, most expensive computers for commission. So I talked to some fellow students, friends and family. Luckily I have an uncle who is into tech things so I got his advise on what the best brands were, the best programs and systems. I am very happy with the decision I made. The laptop does everything I need to do.

UWG Library

I love the UWG library. I love the different levels available to students. If I need a quiet place to study, I know where to go. Or if I wanted to just hang out on Facebook during break, I can go to the bottom floor. My least favorite is that during the busy parts of the day, you have to fight over computers. We have a ton of computers, but not really enough for everyone. I usually go to the UCC during lunch hours because the library computers are usually all taken. I have never looked or needed a book from the library yet, so I guess I'm "confused" about that. I honestly wouldn't know where to start. I would just go to an student assistant and ask where to go. Other than that, I think the UWG library is amazing.

Hi! My name is Katelynn Jewell. I am 21 years old and from Douglasville, GA. My major at UWG is Sociology and I am thinking about minoring in Anthropology. The one thing that surprised me about this class was that it's mainly online. For some reason I was thinking we would be in the actual library looking through books. I am very excited about the class.
